Pacquiao Marquez 2 : Unfinished Business

Last sunday, March 16, 2008. A milestone in the Philippine boxing history happened in Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two of the strongest boxers in the super featherweight division battled to be the WBC Super Featherweight Champion of the world. Filipino boxing sensation Manny "Pac-man" Pacquiao faces off with the current champion, Mexico's Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez.

The fight was so exciting that it got me standing the whole fight. Pacquiao knocks Marquez on the third round but still, as expected, Marquez showed Pacquiao hell for 11 rounds. Both fighters were determined to win.

Marquez, as the last Mexican in the super flyweight not defeated by Pacquiao, carries the burden and the burning passion to make Manny pay for what he did to his country men. Not only this, after the controversial fight 4 years before, Marquez hopes to put a "dot" to the decision. Paquiao, on the other hand, fight to be the first Asian featherweight fighter with 3 belts under him.

The fight lasted for 12 rounds and ended to the judges' scorecards.
Duane Ford 115-112 Pacquiao
Jerry Roth 115-112 Marquez
Tom Miller 114-113 Pacquiao

A point favor to Pacquiao. A lot of people, specially Filipinos, might be saying, "I know he'll win but not by split decision.". You'll be surprised that a lot else thinks why didn't Marquez win? The Associated Press gave the fight to Marquez, 114-113. 2 of the 3 commentators of the G.M.A. Network coverage, which included Nonito Donaire, a Filipino and a Flyweight world champion, 114-113 to Marquez. I also think its going to be Marquez. A rematch was called to answer this, Again..

As they say in boxing and in any other fighting sport, "If you don't want to put the decision to the judges, knock him out!".

Enchanted ( 2007 )

"So close to reaching that famous happy end."

Since I was a kid I was a Disney fan. From, Princes and Princesses to Genies and Lions, Disney always hits the right spot to tell a great fantasy story.

Last year, Disney shared a very interesting plot. What would happen if a fantasy character would be brought to the pain of reality? No dwarfs and hollow trees... nor happily ever afters.

"Enchanted" starts with a hand-drawn animated character of a lovely lady named Giselle ( Amy Adams ) who lives in a hollow tree with colorful forest creatures. While day dreaming of her Prince and a true love's kiss, a vicious troll attacks her house. And like all fairy tales, a prince named Edward ( James Marsden ) comes to her rescue, fell in love and planned to get married. Prince Edward's step mother, Queen Narissa ( Susan Sarandon ), heard this news. Afraid to lose her throne, she tricked Giselle to fall into a magical well which is a portal to a place with no Love, New York City. There, she met a single Dad and Lawyer, Robert ( Patrick Dempsey ), and her daughter, Morgan ( Rachel Covey ). Other characters in the movie are, Robert's fiance Nancy ( Idina Menzel), Queen Narissa's love-blinded servant Nathaniel ( Timothy Spall ) and narrated by Julie Andrews.

Though this movie is a live-action "slightly" musical, like all Disney Animated Movie, it did not bore me to death. The songs were colorful and "princessy" which added fun to the whole movie. In a Disney movie, there has to be that "ONE" song, like Aladdin's "A whole new world" or Lion King's "Can you feel the love tonight", that keeps you singing for days. For this movie, its going to be Jon Maclaughlin's emotional "So close" which, i think, really nailed it. Another good thing about Enchanted is the plot. Its like a sequel of all fairy tales. It tell that princes don't exactly wear funny tights to be charming and, moments does not need forest animals and a great background to be romantic.

Bad parts? Just some lame C.G. which was nearly unnoticeable because of other features of the movie that catches your attention.

Over all, Enchanting! :)

10,000 B.C. ( 2008 )

[ Oh, isn't this against the bible's Genisis story? It's funny the Church did not react on this unlike in The Da Vinci Code. :) ]

Ever wonder what man was like during the prehistoric times?

Set in the Mesolithic period, 10,000 B.C. follows D'Leh (Steven Strait), an accidental hero(ala Moses) who traveled vast land to save his blue-eye Evolet (Camilla Belle) and Tribe. A lot of trials came upon D'leh's journey. Too many accidents, that made him more "Hero".

No movie put too much emphasis on "Accidental hero" more than this one. Everything he does seem to fall right into place. "Destiny"? Ask the movie. Another thing, why does their old woman have powers and the rich and powerful pyramid people's Priest have none? Is this a double meaning thing?

These issues aside (including the 10,000 B.C. C.G.'s), the plot and script is good. None of those cheezy lines and flowering quotes. Just plain ol' English. The artists were great in their roles. This movie can be compared to old biblical movies like "Exodus" with a pinch of 21st century technology.

In other words, plain and simple.

Cleaning up my Blog

I was so bored with my previous blog site. It feels like I'm limited to topics which are socially related. Well, there are tons of things that you can talk about, specially when your in the Philippines, like Jun Lozada and the government, Churches and the government, people and the government and let's not forget about the unreasonable MERALCO commercial (still don't know why they need to have a commercial).

I can't just suffer in reality forever and share it. It just makes my world more stressful. Quote from a movie I watched, "Everybody has problems. Everybody has bad times. Do we sacrifice ALL the good times because of them? No..". Reality is always painful.

From now on, NO MORE SOCIAL STUFF.

This blog will now contain, HAPPY stories of mine and reviews of the 3 things i love in the world (Movies, Music, and Food). So, before going to a dinner-date, watching a movie or buying a record, you might want to read my reviews, and learn what I think about it.
